Holly Hughes is an internationally acclaimed performance artist whose work maps the troubled fault lines of identity. Her combination of poetic imagery and political satire has earned her wide attention and placed her work at the center of America’s culture wars.
Hughes was among the first students to attend The New York Feminist Art Institute, an experiment in progressive pedagogy launched by members of the Heresies Collective. While there, she worked with feminist artists such as Miriam Schapiro and Mary Beth Edelson and participated in performance work at A.I.R. gallery.
In the early '80s, Hughes became part of the Women’s One World Café, also known as the WOW Café, an arts cooperative in the East Village established by an international group of women artists. As the Village gradually became a magnet for the avant-garde art world, WOW served as an incubator for a generation of artists.
Hughes has performed at venues across North America, Great Britain and Australia including the Walker Art Center, the Wexner Center, the Guggenheim Museum, the Yale Repertory, the Drill Hall in London, and numerous universities. She has published two books: Clit Notes: A Sapphic Sampler and O Solo Homo: The New Queer Performance, co-edited with Dr. David Roman. In addition, her work has been widely anthologized and has served as foundational material for performance studies, queer studies and feminist performance studies.
Hughes has received funding from the National Endowment for the Arts, the New York State Council, the Ford Foundation, and the Rockefeller Foundation, among others. She is the recipient of two Village Voice Obie awards, a Lambda Book Award, a GLAAD media award, and a Distinguished Alumni Award.
In addition to teaching at the University of Michigan, Hughes is co-editing Memories of the Revolution: The First Ten Years of the WOW Café, with Alina Troyano for the University of Michigan Press, and is creating a new solo piece entitled The Dog and Pony Show (Bring Your Own Pony). She has also been commissioned by the U-M Institute for Research on Women and Gender to create a new performance piece in celebration of the organization’s tenth anniversary.
Kareem Khubchandani is the Mellon Bridge Assistant Professor in the Dept. of Drama & Dance and the Program in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Tufts University. He is currently working on a book project titled Ishtyle: Accenting Gay Indian Nightlife (U. Michigan Press), a performance ethnography of queer social spaces in Bangalore and Chicago. He is also co-editing a volume on queer nightlife with Kemi Adeyemi (U. Washington) and Ramón Rivera-Servera (Northwestern U.). He has published numerous journals, anthologies, and encyclopedias.
Kareem is also a performance artist, working in drag, storytelling, body art, theater, and digital media. His videos have been screened at the Mississauga South Asian Film Festival, Austin OUTsider multi-arts festival, Hyderabad Queer Film Festival, and San Francisco 3rd i film festival. As his alter ego LaWhore Vagistan he has performed at the Austin International Drag Festival, Mustard Seed South Asian Film Festival (Philadelphia), The Asia Society (NYC), AS220 (Providence) Queens Musuem, Jack Theater (Brooklyn), Bronx Academy of Arts and Dance, Not Festival (Riverside), and A.R.T. Oberon (Cambridge).
TIM MILLER is an internationally acclaimed solo performer. Hailed for its humor and passion, Miller's performance works have delighted and emboldened audiences all over the world at such prestigious venues as Yale Repertory Theatre, the London Institute of Contemporary Art, the Walker Art Center, Actors Theatre of Louisville and the Brooklyn Academy of Music Next Wave Festival. He is the author of the books SHIRTS & SKIN, BODY BLOWS, and 1001 BEDS, an anthology of his performances and essays which won the 2007 Lambda Literary Award for best book in Drama-Theatre. Miller has taught performance at UCLA, NYU and the Claremont School of Theology. He is a

Kit Yan is a Yellow American New York based artist, born in Enping, China, and raised in the Kingdom of Hawaii.
Kit is a 2018-19 Dramatists Guild Foundation Fellow, 2019 Lincoln Center Writer in residence, a 2019-2020 Musical Theater Factory Makers Fellow, and a 2019 MacDowell Fellow.
Their work has been produced by the American Repertory Theater, the Smithsonian, Musical Theater Factory, the New York Musical Festival, Diversionary Theater, and Dixon Place. They have been a resident with the Civilians, Mitten Lab, 5th Avenue Theater, the Village Theater, a WP/Public theater translab fellow and founder.
Their musical, written with Melissa Li, INTERSTATE won 5 awards at the 2018 New York Musical Festival including Best Lyrics. Kit’s show QUEER HEARTACHE has won 5 awards at the Chicago and SF Fringe Festivals and their second musical written with Melissa Li, MISS STEP is under first draft commission at 5th Avenue Theater.
